About Merrow: History

In 1838, Joseph M. Merrow and son
founded one of the first knitting mills in America. Here, the Merrow Company
developed knitting machines which automated the process for seaming and edge
finishing a variety of knit garments including blouses, hosiery, underwear,
sweaters and gloves. Other Merrow contributions followed: the first crochet
machine, the first shell stitiching machine and the first butted seaming
machine for continuous processing of textile fabrics. The
overedge stitch the
company pioneered is known throughtout the commercial sewing industry as
Merrowing. Today, thanks to their solid performance, Merrow
machines are mainstays in the production lines of the worlds top textile
producers.
